J’s Shotgun Spread
Label System in Metallic Gold
J’s Shotgun Spread is a garlic spread with provolone cheese that comes in three flavors: Original, Chipotle and Jalapeño. The brand also sells it already spread on bread, as Blasted garlic bread on a French baguette or loaf. We designed the label system for the whole range: 18 labels across tubs, containers and bread, plus a wholesale sell sheet.
Each flavor has one color. Original is black, Chipotle is red and Jalapeño is green. A metallic gold ink runs through all of them, on the brand seal, the headline type and the icons, so the three colors read as one brand on the shelf.
The route
How this project climbed.
- 02Blueprint Base Camp
Three flavors across four package formats, each a different shape.
- 03Moodboard Meadow
One brand seal, one color per flavor and metallic gold, with western details.
- 04Wireframe Switchbacks
Label shapes drawn to fit: a round lid, a tapered tub wrap, an arched container front and a bread strip.
- 05Commit Ridge
Spot-color print files, with PANTONE 10125 C metallic gold on its own plate.
- 06Staging Camp
Nutrition facts and barcodes fitted to every shape.
- 08Go-Live Summit
Eighteen labels and a wholesale sell sheet.
Task
The range covers three flavors and four package formats: a round tub lid, a curved tub wrap, a shaped container label and a long bread strip. The challenge was to keep one recognizable brand across all of them, make each flavor easy to tell apart at a glance, and fit nutrition facts, ingredients and barcodes into very different shapes. The labels also had to be set up for spot-color printing with a metallic ink.

Project Overview

Metallic Gold and Three Flavor Colors
The labels print in spot inks. PANTONE 10125 C is the metallic gold, PANTONE 200 C is the Chipotle red and PANTONE 7738 C is the Jalapeño green. The gold sits on its own plate in every file, which keeps the seal and the large type consistent from one label size to the next. The gold sheen in these images is a screen simulation built from that plate.
Tubs and Containers
The 16 oz tub carries two labels. A round lid label holds the seal and the flavor name, and a curved wrap label holds the logo, the list of things to put it on, the nutrition facts and the barcode. The curve is drawn to fit the taper of the tub.

The 14 oz container uses a shaped front label with an arched top and a separate back label for the nutrition facts and ingredients.

Blasted Garlic Bread
The bread labels are tall, narrow strips that run the length of a wrapped loaf. The seal sits at the top, the product name is set large in gold through the middle, and the cooking instructions, nutrition facts and barcode fill the lower half. There are six in all: three flavors each for the baguette and the loaf.

Western Details
The name sets the tone, and the copy and icons follow it. Lines such as “Add to your arsenal” and “Wanted on bread or alive” sit beside a cowboy boot, a hat over the recipe QR code, a stagecoach and a shotgun resting on the barcode.

Wholesale Sell Sheet
A sell sheet presents the bread program to wholesale buyers. It covers the flavors, the case pack, shelf life and cooking instructions, and shows the labels on the wrapped bread.
